Thinking globally as both a writer and a speaker is of utmost importance to me as I

continue to pursue a career as an advocate for victims of human trafficking. I have learned

over the years, living and working abroad, how our words can carry so much weight. That is

why it is critical to stand back and ‘hear’ what I am saying from different perspectives in

everyday communications, whether it is writing e-mail, a text, a formal letter, or a speech. I

want my message to be clear and concise in every arena with no room for misinterpretation.

The last several weeks have reiterated that importance for me and encouraged me to dig

deeper in my research to prove my points. One thing that has really helped in my academics

is the advice Lunsford gives, “Highlight key terms in your reading or notes to learn . . .

specialized or technical vocabulary you will be expected to know” (295). This has been

essential in understanding and dialoguing about journal articles in specific fields of study.

I enjoy writing from a Christian perspective because my faith is central to everything

that I do. The Bible tells us that a person will speak from what is in the heart (Matt. 15.18).

My desire completely lines up with Regent University’s motto. I am only one person, yet my

voice does count. I believe it is my personal responsibility to use the gifts and abilities that

God has given me to speak out for those who cannot and in doing so, make a difference for

them as well as make a difference for others the world.
